Outing to Tafjord Kraft
On Thursday October 14, 12 pupils from
class 3TAF and 14 Italians visited Tafjord. They wanted to study
how electric power can be generated from water.
First we were given a guided tour of the Tafjord Kraft Museum,
were we were briefed on the principles of power generation.
Also we got to see the first hydro-electric powerstation in
Tafjord.

Inside there was a lot of interest, both history and
machinery.

Zakarisdammen.
Then we visited the Zakarisdammen ("the Zakarias Dam").
After an excellent lunch we went on to take a closer look at
the K2 - a power station inside the mountain. It was explained
to us how electrical power is produced today.
About 2% of the lokal output of electricity in Norway is produced
at Tafjord Kraft's plants in Tafjord. The power stations are
centrally controlled and supervised so there is no need for
having people present in the actual plants. The production os
supervised and controlled by computers.
The outing to Tafjord was a success and was a fine introduction
to how hydro electric power is generated. This helped us to
understand the ideas behind the Project North Wind – Souht
Sun.
On the way home
At the end of the outing - and the end of the day - we played
bowling and had pizza together on our way back home. A very
amusing end on a day filled up with impressions.
